Black Flag Resynced Has DLC Ideas, but Freedom Cry Is Far From Confirmed

Game director Richard Knight says the team is weighing future DLC while prioritizing updates and support for the remake.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been available for only a week, but the team is already thinking about possible DLC. Game director Richard Knight confirmed that some developers have ideas for continuing Edward Kenway’s story and expanding the Caribbean setting, though Ubisoft has not confirmed any post-launch content.

In an interview with JorRaptor, Richard Knight discussed the team’s DLC plans and made it clear that ideas are only one part of the decision. The developers still have to weigh those concepts against future priorities and ongoing work on the core game.

Edward remains the central focus for the team. Knight described him as the heart of the original experience and suggested there may be more of his story worth telling, but he stopped short of confirming what that could look like.

That uncertainty also applies to Freedom Cry, the standalone Black Flag expansion centered on Adéwalé in Saint-Domingue. Knight said he could not provide an update on a Resynced version because the team is currently focused on the main game, while also dealing with post-launch issues and other plans for the coming months.

“I can’t really say anything as to a Freedom Cry,” Knight said. “We’ve got our hands full with this game right now. Freedom Cry, it’s not a small thing either.”

He acknowledged that the expansion is still on the developers’ radar, describing it as “a game we remember” while noting that it would need modernization work. For now, though, the team’s plans extend only as far as supporting Black Flag Resynced, and Freedom Cry remains an idea rather than an announced project.
