Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 pre-orders are now open on Nintendo Switch 2, and every player on the system will be able to enter the Open Beta without a pre-order or Beta code when it begins on August 28. Activision confirmed the Switch 2 rollout in its Nintendo Switch 2 announcement.
Digital pre-orders are available through the Nintendo eShop for both the Standard Edition and Vault Edition. Physical retailers will also begin taking Standard Edition pre-orders on August 26. The full game will launch on Friday, October 23, 2026.
What the Modern Warfare 4 Beta Includes on Switch 2
The test will be the first Call of Duty Open Beta available on Nintendo Switch 2. Players can try a range of Multiplayer maps, modes, and weapons, along with the game’s movement, combat, Loadout systems, and ballistic gunplay.
Multiplayer is only part of the package. The beta will also include the Campaign mission “Entrenched,” which offers an early look at the game’s globe-spanning story, plus Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence on the new Zodiac map.
The Switch 2 version will support Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, gyro controls, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, HDR, and handheld play. Cross-play and cross-progression will also connect players with the wider Call of Duty community.
Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta Schedule
- August 26, 9:00 a.m. PT: Open Beta preload becomes available
- August 28, 10:00 a.m. PT: Open Beta begins
- September 1, 10:00 a.m. PT: Open Beta ends
No purchase is needed to access the beta on Nintendo Switch 2. Players only need to download it from the Nintendo eShop and sign in with an Activision Account.
How to Download the Beta
Starting August 26, search the Nintendo eShop for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beta” and download it before the August 28 start time.
To play the Multiplayer portion, players will need an Activision Account, a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and an internet connection. Anyone who needs help with their account can use Activision’s account support page.
Vault Edition Content Will Be Temporarily Available
All Nintendo Switch 2 beta players will have temporary access to a selection of Vault Edition content at no extra cost. A Vault Edition pre-order is not required for the beta benefits.

- Special Forces Operator Pack: Four Multiplayer Operator Skins inspired by elite special forces units from France, Germany, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, with localized voice packs

These items will also be available at launch for Vault Edition owners.
Digital Pre-Orders Include Campaign Early Access
Digital pre-orders will grant access to the full Modern Warfare 4 Campaign on October 16, one week before the worldwide launch. Multiplayer and the new DMZ extraction experience will follow with the complete game on October 23.
Infinity Ward is leading development, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version is being developed natively by Infinity Ward in partnership with Digital Legends. The game will also launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a first-person shooter and the follow-up to Modern Warfare III (2023), continuing the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline. The campaign is set during a North Korean invasion of South Korea and features dual perspectives: a young South Korean soldier named Private Park facing his first combat deployment, and Captain Price operating outside official channels on a personal mission. The game also includes multiplayer with 6v6 core maps, large-scale vehicle combat maps, and a dynamic map system called Kill Block that reshapes layouts between rounds. A DMZ extraction mode is also featured. The game is released exclusively on current-generation platforms and PC.
