Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s 86 Metascore Is the Series’ Best Since 2011
Modern Warfare 3 still holds the higher mark at 88, while critics have also praised the new game's campaign and DMZ.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has an 86 Metascore, the franchise’s highest since Modern Warfare 3 scored 88 in 2011. The new game has not topped that mark, but no later Call of Duty entry has scored higher.
Good marks are coming from more than one part of the package. Game Informer’s 8.5/10 review praises the multiplayer and DMZ, while GamesRadar’s 4.5/5 review highlights the campaign alongside those modes. GameSpot’s 8/10 review also points to the campaign, multiplayer, and DMZ as strengths.
DMZ gives the game a distinct extraction mode alongside its campaign and traditional multiplayer. Its Hajin deployments feed into FOB progression, and Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, and Free Roam offer different ways to enter the map, as detailed in DMZ’s FOB progression and deployment options.
The aggregate score may still move. IGN’s review and PC Gamer’s review were both marked in progress and had no scores yet.
