Proto Man Joins Mega Man in Dual Override’s First Gameplay Reveal
The trailer introduces Robot Master Twinkle Girl and Proto Man, while revealing Custom Chips, a temporary Override mode, and a risky cooling mechanic.
Mega Man: Dual Override has shown off its first gameplay trailer, introducing the Robot Master Twinkle Girl and confirming that Proto Man will join Mega Man during the upcoming adventure.
The footage was shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live and gives players their first proper look at the 2D action platformer in motion. Twinkle Girl appears as one of the bosses Mega Man will face, but the Blue Bomber defeats her before the trailer ends. The game will also be the first new entry in the classic Mega Man lineup since 2018.
Proto Man joins Mega Man’s mission
Mega Man will not be handling the robot chaos alone. Proto Man will accompany him through the adventure as robots run wild at a Robot exhibition during Dr. Light’s absence. Together, the pair will work to restore peace to the city and uncover what caused the incident.
The trailer also points to more flexible character customization. Custom Chips will let players modify Mega Man’s abilities, while the new Override system can provide a powerful boost for a limited time.
Those upgrades give the Blue Bomber plenty of new tricks. Gameplay shows Mega Man firing several projectiles at once, hovering over hazards, and dashing around enemies to find a better firing angle.
Mega Man’s upgrades bring a serious heat problem
Extra power comes with a catch. After activating the modifications, Mega Man has to expose his glowing heatsinks to prevent the system from overheating. The cooldown is anything but quiet, with the Blue Bomber visibly sparking and smoking as he manages the heat.
The most extreme version of the mechanic is Destroy Mode. In one sequence, Mega Man opens up his available cooling surfaces and fires a massive shot that immediately defeats a boss. The risky maneuver works, but it leaves the Blue Bomber looking badly overtaxed. A Destroy Mode sequence offers a closer look at the attack.
Capcom announced the project at The Game Awards in 2025, giving Mega Man fans a 2027 release window before this gameplay reveal. The game does not have a precise release date yet. It is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, Steam, and Epic Games Store, and a Steam wishlist is already available.
