Spirit are the Esports World Cup 2026 champions after defeating FUT 3-1 in the grand final at Paris’s Accor Arena. FUT took the opening map 13-10 on Cache, but Spirit answered with wins on Anubis, Ancient, and Nuke to close out the series.
The final was the first meeting between the two teams. Spirit reached the championship match with a 2-0 semifinal win over Legacy on August 22, while FUT arrived unbeaten after beating FURIA 2-1. The result gave Spirit its second title of the year after its victory at PGL Astana.
FUT struck first on Cache
FUT selected Cache for its first-ever official map on the battleground, using the teams’ shared Inferno ban to remove Dust2 instead. The decision suited FUT’s aggressive approach, and the Turkish team opened with a 3-0 lead before Dmitry sh1ro Sokolov’s clutch put Spirit on the board.
Spirit then ripped off six consecutive rounds, with Myroslav zont1x Plakhotia contributing several multi-kills to move the team ahead 6-3. Aulon Krabeni Fazlija’s 1v2 clutch kept FUT level at halftime, after which the team took six straight CT rounds to build a 12-6 advantage. Yasin xfl0ud Koç posted 140 ADR during that defensive surge. Spirit fought back to 12-10, but FUT ended the comeback with a broken-buy round to take the opener.
Spirit’s clutch play kept the series alive, with sh1ro producing another key moment under pressure.
Spirit survived two close maps
FUT won the pistol on Anubis and opened a 4-1 lead, only for Spirit’s defense to take over. Sokolov, Danil donk Kryshkovets, and Andrey tN1R Tatarinovich powered the recovery to a 7-5 halftime lead, and Spirit extended it to 11-5 on the CT side.
A disjointed round gave FUT the opening it needed to start another comeback. The Turkish side brought the map back to 12-12, forcing overtime after Spirit failed to convert its first map-point chances. An unchecked angle helped shut down one FUT attack, while a messy 4v3 post-plant gave Spirit the chance to close. Tatarinovich delivered eight frags across three overtime rounds, including a key rifle round after FUT had taken the pistol and its conversion, moving Spirit to a 15-12 lead before the team finished the map 16-13.
The overtime sequence gave Spirit its first opening in the series.
Ancient followed the same script: FUT started quickly, Spirit recovered, and neither side could create much separation. FUT led 6-3 before Spirit leveled the half at 6-6. FUT’s T side had produced six rounds, and Spirit matched that total after the sides switched to move ahead 12-9. Boris magixx Vorobiev and Tatarinovich helped close the gap before overtime.
Sh1ro denied Dmytro dem0n Myroshnychenko during a 1v3 attempt, then won a separate 1v1 in overtime to put Spirit on map point. The final round ended with Spirit sneaking a defuse in a 2v2 while FUT’s players remained stranded outside the site. The narrow finish gave Spirit the map 16-14.
The Ancient loss extended FUT’s losing streak on the map to nine matches. It also left the team needing a reverse sweep in its first Big Event grand final, a task that became even harder once Nuke began.
Nuke sealed Spirit’s second title
Spirit took the attack on Nuke and immediately turned the final in its favor. The team won the opening pistol and conversion, then took the following rifle round through Tatarinovich before racing to a 10-2 halftime lead. Tatarinovich led the early rounds, while zont1x added high-impact multi-kills.
FUT could not recover from the early deficit, and Spirit finished the deciding map 13-5 to claim the series 3-1.
The championship capped seven weeks of Esports World Cup competition in Paris, with 25 winners crowned across 24 titles. Spirit’s run also saw the team end a six-match losing streak against Vitality in the quarterfinals.
It was a strong result for coach Sergey hally Shavaev, who had faced criticism after the team showed improved form under Dmitry S0tF1k Forostyanko during his absence. FUT’s young lineup pushed one of the tournament favorites to the limit, but Spirit’s ability to recover after losing Cache proved decisive.
Spirit’s comeback secured the Esports World Cup trophy, while FUT left Paris with a runner-up finish after entering the grand final without a loss. Share your thoughts on the series in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
