Hellraiser: Revival Will Make Its Puzzle Box the Key to Escaping the Labyrinth

The first-person survival horror centers on the Genesis Configuration, a puzzle box that can alter combat and reshape the world around Aiden.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival will launch on PS5 on October 8, 2026, and an August 19 PlayStation Blog preview details how its puzzles will test players as much as its monsters do. Aiden will face a reality-warping labyrinth where running away is not always the smartest way to survive.

One sequence centers on the Chatterer, whose constant chorus of snapping teeth gives away his presence before his body appears. When Aiden tries to flee, the Cenobite repeatedly materializes ahead of him in a burst of electricity. The solution is to identify the corridor where Chatterer does not reappear, turning an apparently hopeless chase into a puzzle with a very unsettling answer.

The labyrinth changes the rules

Although Aiden will have access to firearms and other weapons, the preview focused on the way Mad Head Games and Saber Interactive use strange environments to create tension. The team is treating the setting as more than a backdrop, with rooms, corridors, and entire spaces designed to communicate clues through their distortions.

Near the beginning of the game, Aiden reaches a house that looks ordinary at first glance. Crooked photographs and warped details hint that something is wrong, while attempts to escape send him back through the same rooms. Progress requires turning around instead of continuing forward, which changes the environment and breaks the loop.

The labyrinth is connected to the real world, so its changes are meant to guide Aiden toward a different way of thinking. Players will need to watch for those environmental hints rather than assume every obstacle can be solved by pushing ahead.

The Genesis Configuration opens new paths

At the center of the puzzle design is the Genesis Configuration, a box that can manipulate the world and also grant Aiden offensive abilities, including the power to set enemies on fire. Its role goes well beyond combat, with several challenges built around changing the box or using it to alter nearby machinery.

One puzzle has Aiden rotate a huge wheel, realigning narrow walkways inside a room filled with spikes. Another takes place in a courtyard with three main gates. Each gate requires a missing item from a statue, such as a tongue or hand, before the Genesis Configuration can be changed into the shape needed to unlock it.

Not every challenge will have a single answer. The team has kept the details of its more open-ended puzzles secret, leaving players to find those solutions themselves. More familiar survival horror systems will also appear, including lock-picking, safe combinations, crafting materials, ammunition, upgrades, and new weapons. Inventory management will take inspiration from the Resident Evil series.

Hellraiser’s horror reaches beyond the monsters

The game’s environments draw from the impossible interiors associated with M.C. Escher, blending those spaces with the series’ fixation on the boundary between pleasure and pain. Clive Barker has advised the project since its early conception, while Doug Bradley is reprising his role as Pinhead.

Vid Rajin, the game’s Assistant Game Director, said Barker and Bradley helped the team preserve smaller franchise details. Their involvement has also helped the developers respond to the positive reaction from Hellraiser fans during development.

Rajin suggested that the campaign could take more than 12 hours to finish. The PS5 Pro version will offer higher graphical settings and PSSR support, giving the hardware a way to present the labyrinth’s nightmarish spaces with greater visual detail.
