Space Marine 2 expands its battles with a new Sorcerer, PvP maps, and Steam Workshop mods

Patch 14 added two Eternal War arenas and a Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer, while Workshop creations can expand squads to as many as nine players.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has wrapped up its second year of post-launch support with Patch 14, also known as The Confrontation Update, followed by a separate update that added Steam Workshop support.

Patch 14 focuses heavily on Eternal War, the game’s PvP mode. It added Sanctum, a medium-sized arena, and Facility, which Saber Interactive describes as one of the game’s most compact PvP maps. Weekly rewards also give players another reason to return, with matches and challenges offering cosmetics and other in-game items.

A new Thousand Sons threat

Operations received a dangerous new miniboss in the form of the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer. The Thousand Sons warrior can create copies of itself, teleport across the battlefield, and fire a powerful laser beam. Its mix of ranged attacks and movement abilities gives squads another problem to manage during missions.

The update’s new PvP maps and Sorcerer are covered in more detail in the full Patch 14 breakdown.

Steam Workshop opens the door to larger squads

Steam Workshop support is still in its early stages, but players have already started publishing additions for the PC version. The largest project so far is Astartes Overhaul, a mod that rebalances Operations, adds customization options, and introduces three playable classes: Terminator, Chaplain, and Apothecary.

The overhaul also adds four weapons, including the Assault Bolter and the Artifex Bolt Rifle, which can use optional incendiary bolts. Other Workshop projects build on that mod with extra execution animations and larger squad sizes. Some additions allow six-player or even nine-player squads, meaning a player can join a co-op session with up to nine other people when the relevant mods are installed.

Other creations take a different approach. Health on Executions changes the way finishers restore health, while Rogue Trader Tyranids gives the game’s Tyranid enemies a look closer to their 1985 designs. Players can browse the current additions through the Space Marine 2 Workshop.

With the second year complete, Saber Interactive has confirmed that support will continue for at least another year. The developer plans to reveal a roadmap for the next phase on the game’s second anniversary in September through an official Focus Entertainment update.
