Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Gets Better Widescreen Support on GOG
The preservation update also adds an FPS limiter, multi-monitor mouse lock, and an in-game overlay for FOV and frame-rate controls.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the original 2003 action game rather than Ubisoft’s canceled remake, now includes a collection of PC improvements through the GOG Preservation Program. GOG released the refreshed PC version on August 18, 2026, and it is available through the GOG storefront. The update focuses on compatibility, display support, camera scaling, and player control options, as detailed in GOG’s Preservation Program announcement and the original Reddit post.
Players using widescreen or ultrawide monitors can now access native support across current resolutions and aspect ratios. The camera also adjusts its field of view based on the monitor’s shape, helping the adventure fit wider displays without relying on the original 4:3 presentation.
The PC release adds several practical controls, too. A multi-monitor mouse lock keeps the cursor inside the game window, while an FPS limiter lets players choose a frame-rate cap. An in-game overlay can be opened with F11 and closed with ESC, giving players quick access to FPS and FOV adjustments without leaving the game.
GOG kept the main menu within its original 4:3 bounds because its interface assets were built around that layout. On ultrawide displays, the manual FOV slider is capped at roughly 110% to avoid stretching and other visual problems. The update also includes a stability check for the preserved release.

The biggest changes affect display support and frame-rate control, while the wrapper and stability work address compatibility on current PC hardware.
- Implemented a lightweight wrapper to resolve modern hardware incompatibilities.
- Added native widescreen and ultrawide support for all modern resolutions and aspect ratios.
- Implemented camera scaling that automatically adjusts the field of view (FOV) based on monitor aspect ratio.
- Added a multi-monitor mouse lock option to confine the cursor to the game window.

- Introduced a lightweight, real-time in-game overlay (press F11 to open, ESC to close) for instant adjustments to FPS limits and FOV multipliers.
- Locked the main menu to its original 4:3 bounds to preserve hard-coded UI assets.
- Capped the manual FOV slider at roughly 110% on ultrawide displays to prevent engine stretching and graphical glitches.
