Fallout 4’s August 18 Patch May Disrupt Mods, Bethesda Says
Bethesda recommends saving a load order or opening an existing save so the full Creations list can be downloaded again after the patch goes live.

Fallout 4 will receive a patch on Tuesday, August 18, focused on general improvements to Creations. Bethesda Game Studios has warned that the update may interfere with mods, and it wants players to protect their load orders before the patch goes live.
Creations is Fallout 4’s in-game system for mod content, including items that can be purchased with digital currency. Changes to that system can affect how installed content is handled, which is why Bethesda is asking players to take a precaution before the patch arrives.
Save your Fallout 4 load order before August 18
In Bethesda’s announcement on X, the studio asked players who have not opened a save recently to log into the game before the update. Players can also manually save their load order.
After the load order has been saved, Bethesda says the entire Creations list can be downloaded again at once when the patch is live. The studio did not identify which mods might be affected, so the warning applies broadly to modded Fallout 4 installations rather than a specific group of files.
Bethesda is also working on a Skyrim update
The same announcement included a brief note about Skyrim. Bethesda said another update is in development, but it did not provide a release date, feature list, or other details about what it will change.
Fallout 4 has faced mod problems after past updates
Players have seen similar disruption before. Fallout 4’s 2024 next-gen update broke modded saves, while the game’s 2025 Anniversary Edition update later left many mods unusable. Bethesda scheduled a hotfix and two additional patches after the Anniversary Edition update, as detailed in the earlier Anniversary Edition coverage.
Bethesda has not confirmed that the August 18 patch will break mods in the same way, but saving a load order ahead of time gives players a way to restore their Creations collection if the update causes trouble.
