Aspyr Plans More Classic Lord of the Rings Releases After War in the North

The promise accompanied the August 11 release of War in the North Legacy Edition, but Aspyr did not identify the next titles or their release platforms.

Aspyr plans to bring more classic The Lord of the Rings games to current audiences after the August 11 release of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition. The studio shared the news in the press release for the rerelease, though it did not say which game will come next.

Aspyr told fans that more classic releases from the franchise are planned for the future. No follow-up title, launch date, or platform details have been announced yet.

The first returning title is already available across five platforms: PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. The War in the North Legacy Edition brings back the 2011 action RPG, giving Aspyr a starting point for revisiting older Middle-earth games.

Snowblind Studios originally released The Lord of the Rings: War in the North in November 2011 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The original PC version was later removed from Steam, making the Legacy Edition a new way for PC players to access the action RPG.

The franchise’s back catalog includes PS2 adaptations of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Other possible candidates include The Third Age, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest.

Those games have not been confirmed for a return. For now, Aspyr’s statement is a broad promise rather than a schedule, so fans will need to wait for specific announcements before knowing which trip through Middle-earth comes next.
