San Andreas gets 100 recovered voice lines as SilentPatch cleans up the whole GTA trilogy
The patch also fixes resolution-based visual effects, police behavior, roadblocks, vehicle-storage crashes, and a GTA 3 gang bug that even affected the PS2 version.

SilentPatch’s July 31 update adds more than 100 fixes across GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The biggest change is in San Andreas, where the fan-made patch restores 100 voice lines that players could not previously hear because of bugs and incorrect code.
The original PC releases of Rockstar’s 3D Grand Theft Auto games carried plenty of problems, partly because the games reused code and partly because PC ports did not always receive much care. SilentPatch has addressed many of those issues over the years, and its latest release also brings back content that was left inaccessible.
The accompanying video focuses on the ongoing work to fix San Andreas:
San Andreas gets a fuller voice track
Some of the restored dialogue only failed under specific conditions. For example, CJ’s lines when firing at people previously worked only when players used a controller. With the new update, those lines can also play when aiming and shooting with a mouse and keyboard.
Other restored audio includes pedestrian conversations about the weather, lines for criminals who are fleeing, CJ’s comments when taking control of specific neighborhoods, and extra dialogue when interacting with sex workers. Gang members have more taunts, police can announce that they have surrounded someone or need covering fire, and a new grunt plays when CJ gets sprayed with paint. Shopkeepers also have more responses when their stores are being held up.
The SilentPatch update notes say the Ammu-Nation vendor had “over fifteen voice lines” for hold-ups that had never been used.
Patch Notes
Audio is only one part of the release. The update also targets visual effects, NPC equipment, police behavior, vehicle storage, and several bugs that could appear only under very specific conditions.
- Lens flares and heat haze now scale with the game’s resolution.
- NPCs can handle sniper rifles and RPGs as intended.
- Police no longer use the incorrect gangsta-style shooting animation.
- Birds spawn correctly, and roadblocks face the proper direction.
- Boats can be stored in garages without crashing the game.
- Rainy San Andreas no longer gets a red sky at 8 p.m. because of a lighting bug.
- Fort Carson no longer suffers an unexpected explosion caused by a plane spawning in a driveway.
- GTA III street gangsters now walk in formation instead of wandering around before freezing in place. The problem also affected the PS2 version.
SilentPatch had already become a common way to address problems such as broken mouse-look, but this release gives players even more reason to use it when revisiting the trilogy. Setup instructions for all three games are available from the project.
