Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will launch on August 27, 2026, giving the A Plague Tale series a new lead character, a new setting, and a much bigger role for melee combat. The prequel will be available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The game will also be available on day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and will support Xbox Play Anywhere. Focus Entertainment describes it as a prequel set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem.
Here is what to know about its release, story, gameplay, editions, and preorder extras.
Release date and platforms

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will release on August 27, 2026. The launch platforms are:
- PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X/S
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play the game at launch. Xbox Play Anywhere support will also allow the Xbox and PC versions to share that feature.
Story and characters

The story follows Sophia, a treasure hunter searching for answers about her past. Her journey leads her to Minotaur Island off the coast of Crete, where ancient ruins, dangerous trials, and difficult paths stand between her and the truth.
A mysterious danger also hangs over the island. The threat may be connected to the Macula, the enigmatic force tied to the earlier A Plague Tale games.
Sophia will not be the only playable character. The narrative moves between her time and the era of the ancient Minoan civilization. Players will briefly take control of Theseus, the legendary Greek hero. His actions in the past will affect the conflicts Sophia faces in the present.
Gameplay and combat

Stealth, puzzles, and story scenes remain part of the series’ formula, but Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy puts much more attention on direct combat. Sophia can fight with two swords and attack freely or lock onto individual enemies.
Weapons dropped by defeated enemies can also be picked up and thrown at foes farther away, including archers. Timing matters in close-range fights, since parries build an enemy’s meter. Once that meter is full, Sophia can finish the opponent with a powerful attack.
Combat rewards Resonance Points, which can be spent on new abilities. That progression gives Sophia more tools as the journey continues.
Puzzles provide a different pace between battles. Sophia carries a stolen Minoan sphere that helps her manipulate light and open new routes. Some challenges involve rotating pillars to redirect beams and unlock paths through the ruins.
Editions and preorder bonus

The game will be sold in two editions:
Standard Edition — $49.99 / €49.99
- Base game
Collector’s Edition — $170 / €149
- Base game
- Premium steelbook
- Three exclusive art prints
- Replica ring
- Hand-painted Sophia and Theseus resin statue
Preordering either edition on any platform before August 27, 2026, will provide the Heritage Pack DLC. The pack includes the Minoan Sword, Alec’s Pendant, and an in-game digital artbook.
What to expect from Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
This prequel will keep the series’ emphasis on atmosphere, puzzles, and dramatic storytelling while giving Sophia a more aggressive way to handle danger. The Crete setting and the Minoan mythology also give the adventure a different backdrop from Amicia and Hugo’s journey.
The available information has not shown signs of the rats or plague returning in this entry, though the Macula may still connect Sophia’s story to the wider series mythology.
