The collection was discussed in a Reddit post from InkedSketch, who said their grandmother had been asking the family to search for her Pokemon cards for years. The family finally looked near the end of last year after the woman, who is in her 80s, began bringing up the collection more often.

At first, they expected to find something similar to the worn-out Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards left over from childhood. Instead, they found sealed products that collectors now value far more than anyone in the family seemed to realize.
According to the discussion, individual Fossil booster packs can sell for hundreds of dollars. The three sealed Fossil boxes were estimated at around $7,000 each by some price-tracking sites, although another commenter put the value of first-edition Fossil boxes between $15,000 and $30,000 apiece.
That is where the rough total of approximately $250,000 came from. The figure was posted as a community estimate rather than a formal appraisal, and some commenters argued that it may still be too low. One person pointed out that a shadowless Charizard in decent condition could be worth five figures by itself.
The discovery also included more than trading cards. Vintage action figures and a still-sealed Pokedex toy from the 1990s help turn the find into a snapshot of Pokemon merchandise from the franchise’s early years.
Whether the collection reaches the full estimate would depend on the condition, authenticity, and exact editions of each item. Sealed packaging can make a major difference, especially for older products, but a professional assessment would be needed before putting a final price on the haul.
