Spider-Man’s MARVEL Tōkon Story Features Art from a My Hero Academia Manga Artist
Betten Court, who also worked on Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, drew the Amazing Guardians episode's animated panels.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is giving each of its five single-player Episodes a different artistic identity. The Spider-Man-focused Amazing Guardians story was drawn by Japanese illustrator Betten Court, best known for the prequel manga My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
The beta included a short sample of Spider-Man’s story, giving players an early look at its animated comic panels. Court’s style is easy to spot in the presentation, including the expressive facial work used for Ms. Marvel.
Court already has a Marvel connection through Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, which he illustrated with writer Hideyuki Furuhashi. The manga follows a younger version of Spider-Man alongside a young girl connected to the hero’s world.
Every story in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will feature artwork from a separate artist. That approach should give the campaign’s five episodes their own visual character instead of presenting the full mode in one consistent style.
Comic writer Kieron Gillen wrote all five stories. The campaign will use battles, voice acting, and motion-comic sequences to tell its stories, with the Amazing Guardians episode focusing on Spider-Man and his team.
The Spider-Man sample offers only a small look at Court’s work, so the other artists involved in the campaign remain to be revealed.
