Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Will Shut Down Before Its Global Launch

LightSpeed Studios will close the Chinese servers on September 30 after ending plans for a worldwide release.

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will not receive its planned worldwide release. LightSpeed Studios has canceled the global launch and will close the game’s active Chinese servers on September 30, ending the mobile version before it reached players in other regions.

The decision was announced on the official Final Fantasy 14 Mobile website. LightSpeed Studios attributed the change to adjustments in its business operations and the current gaming market. The studio’s licensing agreement with Tencent will also end, removing the arrangement that allowed it to produce the mobile adaptation.

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile’s shutdown schedule

The first stage began on July 17 at 18:00 (UTC+8), when top-ups and new user registrations ended. The servers will continue operating until September 30 at 11:00 (UTC+8), when the game’s operations will officially stop. Forums and customer support will remain available until October 15 at 11:00 (UTC+8).

Because Final Fantasy 14 Mobile was only available in China, players in other regions are not losing access to a game they could already play. However, anyone waiting for the global version will no longer have a chance to try it.

Some mobile features may deserve a second chance

The mobile version included customization options that are not available in the main game, including extra hairstyles and additional dye channels. Those features gave players more control over their characters and could fit naturally into the broader Final Fantasy 14 experience.

Other mobile content included penguin-themed event items, a gacha system, a hoverboard mount, and multiple mount skins. The customization features would be the more welcome additions for the main game, while the gacha mechanics can stay behind when the mobile version closes.

The main Final Fantasy 14 continues

The cancellation does not affect the original MMORPG. The beastmaster job will arrive in fall 2026, while the Evercold expansion is scheduled for early 2027. Final Fantasy 14 also continues to offer thousands of hours of existing content across its long-running story and expansions.

LightSpeed Studios said the mobile game survived for more than a year, and the shutdown came from business and market changes rather than a stated lack of players. For anyone losing access to the mobile version, the main game remains available as the series’ primary online world.
