Smalland 2: Lost Realms will launch on Xbox Series X|S later in 2026, bringing a new story, a larger collection of regions, and several major changes to the survival formula. An Xbox Wire announcement detailed the sequel’s new systems, including swimming, creature companionships, seasonal exploration, and more flexible crafting.
The sequel takes place ages before Smalland: Survive the Wilds. The Smallfolk will enter a world filled with mythical creatures connected to natural elements, along with new cultures and settlements that existed before the Giants colonized the land. An omen also points toward a disaster that could devastate the realms.
Smalland 2: Lost Realms is being built with Unreal Engine 5. Its world will be divided into regions with different landscapes, resources, and creatures, giving players more reasons to travel beyond the familiar tree-filled setting of the first game.
Co-op is part of the package as well. Up to 10 players can build, fight, gather, and survive together while establishing outposts and trade routes across the different lands.
Water Opens New Routes

Water will play a much larger role in reaching new areas. Players can swim through ponds and narrow streams, then use boats to cross wider stretches. Seasonal changes will also affect access to the environment. A frozen waterway in winter, for example, may become a path toward a previously unreachable location.
Those routes can lead to new materials and creatures, so the weather is more than a visual change. It can alter how players move through the world and what they can find there.
Creatures Become True Companions

Creature taming has also received a major rethink. Instead of functioning like another piece of equipment, tamed animals can become members of the player’s party. Each companion brings its own abilities, which can help during travel and survival.
That relationship comes with responsibility. Players must bond with their companions and care for them. Neglecting those needs can cause an animal to leave, making creature management an important part of any journey.
Crafting Gives Players More Control

The crafting system is moving away from a mostly linear progression path. In Smalland 2, players can combine ingredients with different properties to create equipment suited to their needs. That should give gathering and material selection a clearer purpose, especially when preparing for different regions and threats.
The game will also let Smallfolk build outposts across the map and connect the various lands with trade routes. Alongside armor and weapons, players can gather or process resources to support their growing network.
Meet the Feyfolk

The new realms are home to the Feyfolk, creatures with their own communities, settlements, goals, and traditions. Building a reputation with them can reveal their secrets, unlock crafts, and provide access to new resources and arcane knowledge.
With its new setting, creature systems, water traversal, and crafting changes, Smalland 2: Lost Realms is taking the series in a broader direction. The game is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S later in 2026. Players can also play Smalland: Survive the Wilds on Xbox Series X|S today.
