Peak’s latest patch eases up on Roots and Mesa
The 1.64.a update removes two variant types from the map pool and temporarily lowers spore clouds on tougher Roots runs.

Peak’s 1.64.a update was a light touch, but it still changed how a few routes can spawn. The developer said bigger work is still focused on the final biome update, with more balance, performance, and mod support changes planned over the next few weeks. A larger engine update is also coming, and it will hit the beta branch first so modders have time to adjust before it reaches everyone.
The immediate changes are narrow. Two variant types are out of the pool for Roots and Mesa, and some of the harsher Roots layouts now produce fewer spore clouds for the time being.
Patch Notes 1.64.a
- Removed BombBeetles and TornadoHell from the list of potential variants for Roots and Mesa
- There should be slightly less spore clouds on some of the more challenging Roots variants (this is a temporary change to make these variants slightly less brutal while we look into making more holistic changes around Roots balance)
Peak is still moving toward the final biome update, and the team said future engine changes will appear on the beta branch before a wider release. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
