GGMods to Pay Mod Authors per Download and Offer Grants, Founding Perks Ahead of April Launch

The new site will convert downloads, updates, and community activity into cashable GGMods points and opens a Founding Modders program before its April 13, 2026 launch.

GGMods, a new mod-hosting platform aimed at PC creators and players, will officially launch on April 13, 2026. The site is positioning itself around direct creator compensation with a fixed-value model that converts downloads and community engagement into money.

The system uses a native points currency. Authors collect GGMods points when their mods are downloaded, updated, or otherwise interact with the community. Points are redeemable for cash, and the platform said eligible creators must be at least 18 years old, keep a good account standing, and register for the rewards program to participate.

Money before the finish line

Beyond per-download payments, GGMods plans Completion Grants and exclusive partnership deals that offer upfront funding and promotional support for selected projects. These programs are meant to help modders finish ambitious work and bring it to a wider audience rather than rely solely on post-release donations, while also promising transparency around any changes that affect a creator’s work, and it said it will invite community feedback on rules and tooling so creators are informed before adjustments take effect.

Early access perks for Founding Modders

Creators who join GGMods before the April launch can apply to the Founding Modders program. Accepted authors will be eligible for advance payments, early access to new features, and direct input on upcoming tools and updates. GGMods emphasized that mods remain the authors’ property and that the program does not require exclusivity.

Founding Modders will also be able to participate in a referral program. The referrer earns a bonus tied to the number of unique downloads of the referred author’s mods. The bonus starts at $100 for a mod that reaches between 1 and 5 million unique downloads and can grow to $500 if downloads exceed 20 million.

Top creators on the platform will receive wider exposure through editorial features and interviews on outlets such as GameRant and Polygon, GGMods said.

GGMods is also running community events and conversations on its official Discord server to collect feedback and build momentum ahead of the launch. Interested creators can join via the invite link. The site itself is available at GGMods.

This model keeps mods free for players while routing a share of value back to authors based on activity and reach. Whether the approach will attract major creators and sustain long-term payouts remains to be seen, but the combination of grants, upfront cash, and per-download payments sets GGMods apart from donation-driven hosting.

I've spent half of my life playing video games, ever since the competitive 1.6 era. Now I am happily married to Margarita Kicevski, and have two beautiful children. My goal is to deliver fresh news and updates, but most of the time I want to work on guides. Since I have rebooted this website, I am planning on making it huge. Just you wait!
