Windrose demo tops Steam Next Fest charts and hits 1 million wishlists

Windrose, an indie pirate open world survival crafting game that has players fighting on both land and sea, surged to the top of Steam’s Next Fest popular upcoming charts during the festival thanks to its free demo.

The demo climbed ahead of Capcom’s Pragmata on Steam’s official Next Fest listings. The position can be seen on the Steam Next Fest charts, where Windrose is listed among the most wishlisted upcoming titles. The studio behind Windrose posted a message to players confirming the milestone and thanking fans for trying the demo. In that developer post, the team wrote:

“Windrose means the world to us, and we hope that, over time, it might come to mean something special to you, too.”

The post continued with a longer note about the sudden attention and the work ahead:

“This past week has been a real whirlwind for our team with all the attention the game has been getting. And as the spotlight grows, so do expectations. We’re working hard every day to live up to them. There’s still a lot ahead of us, and honestly, it can feel a little scary at times. Our biggest goal is to ship a great game and let you be the judge. It may take time, but with your support, this journey becomes a lot easier (and a bit more swashbuckling, too).”

The developers closed their message by announcing a wishlist milestone and thanking players directly: “A few weeks ago, we couldn’t even have imagined this. And thanks to all of you, our game has now passed the 1,000,000+ wishlists mark. That’s an incredible milestone, and a reminder of how much work we still have ahead. Thank you so much.”

Players and critics comparing Windrose point to Sea of Thieves when describing its nautical charm and to Rust for the survival crafting systems. The demo that hit Steam Next Fest is free to try and has driven the surge in wishlists and chart position.
