Peak missed out at The Game Awards, but devs say 2025 was a PEAK year

At The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, Peak, the chaotic co-op climbing game, failed to take home Best Multiplayer, which instead went to Arc Raiders.

Developers and publishers responded on social media with a mix of self-aware jokes and gratitude. Aggro Crab posted an image of Peak’s mascot Bing Bong and a line about how the character has had a rough year, telling fans not to “hit up Bing Bong right now.” The company later thanked players and other indie teams, writing that they “still had a PEAK year.” Read Aggro Crab’s original posts on X and the follow-up message.

Co-publisher Landfall also acknowledged the nomination, calling it an honor for a small team to be listed alongside much larger studios. Landfall’s note thanked voters and supporters; see the message on X.

The reaction underlined a broader point about what some outlets are calling the “friendslop” trend, a wave of daft, cooperative games built around chaotic physics and silly teamwork. Peak sits with titles like REPO, RV There Yet, and Content Warning in that niche, and the style can be traced back to hits such as Fall Guys and Overcooked.

Although Peak didn’t win, an indie team getting a Game Awards nomination in a category stacked with studio projects was a visible moment for smaller developers. The studio and its supporters leaned into the joke and the community response rather than framing the result as a loss. For context on the rest of the ceremony, Console PC Gaming has the full winners list.
