Ready or Not Prepares for Console Launch with New Animations and Content Adjustments

Ready or Not's console release nears with animation updates and minor content changes for certification.

Ready or Not is eager up for its console debut on July 15th, and the team at VOID Interactive is sharing some cool updates about what’s coming. Alongside the console launch, PC players will receive a free update called Los Sueños Stories, featuring fresh animations and content tweaks to meet console standards. Let’s break down what’s new and what’s changed.

The animation department has been busy revamping SWAT movements for both players and AI. Door kicking, arrests, and item handling now look smoother and more natural, thanks to new motion capture data and improved use of Unreal Engine 5’s features. I love how they’re mixing in a system that randomizes player locomotion, so no two SWAT officers move exactly the same. It’s kinda wild to see so much attention given to details like shield handling, where animations help keep your head and body covered as much as possible. The modular design means they can tweak these animations easily if needed — smart move!

Check out these videos showcasing some of the new animations:

  • First person door kicking and chemlight deployment:
  • Third and first person arrest animations:
  • Shield bearer animations in third person:

Now, about those content adjustments for consoles. VOID Interactive has been careful to only change what’s absolutely necessary to pass certification. The game keeps its ESRB M, PEGI 18, and USK 18 ratings, but some tweaks were needed. For example, gore effects are toned down slightly — dismemberment happens only when enemies are alive, and stops after death. The game still looks gritty, but it’s less extreme. Some torture visuals and nudity have been softened, too. One interesting change is the animation of a child character on the “Twisted Nerve” map, which was altered from a convulsive state to sleeping, to better meet certification rules.

Why did some changes affect both console and PC versions? Maintaining separate versions with different assets can cause bugs and multiplayer issues, especially for crossplay. The team wanted to avoid that headache, so some content changes apply across both platforms.

It’s impressive that the team passed console certification on their first try, a feat that doesn’t happen often, especially for a team new to the process. The upcoming launch will bring new weapons, difficulty options, levels, and the Los Sueños Stories content, eager to deliver the authentic tactical experience fans expect.
