Oblivion Remastered’s Latest Texture Glitch Erases a Classic In-Game Joke

A new texture error in Oblivion Remastered removes a beloved spelling joke from a shop sign.

Oblivion Remastered has stumbled into another texture mishap, wiping out a small but memorable joke from the original game. After players spotted a botched texture on the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary door, a fresh error has surfaced involving a shop sign that fans of the 2006 classic will recognize instantly.

Reddit users recently pointed out that the sign for Lelles’ Quality Merchandise, a general store on Anvil’s Waterfront, lost its quirky charm in the remaster. In the original game, the sign humorously read “Lelles’ Quality Mercandise”—with an oddly placed letter H between the C and A, a subtle nod to the store owner’s haplessness. This little detail added character and a bit of levity, mainly when you help Lelles fend off thieves during the Fighters’ Guild questline.

In Oblivion Remastered, the sign still contains the misspelling but loses the misplaced H. Instead of a deliberate joke, it now looks like a simple spelling mistake; someone at Bethesda or the contracted studio Virtuos might have missed the significance. NPC dialogue still references the error, but the visual punchline is gone.

This kind of slip-up highlights the risks when outsourcing texture work. It’s easy for subtle, lore-rich details to get lost in translation, especially when the team handling the remaster might not fully grasp the original’s nuances. Then again, Bethesda’s team might have missed it too if they’d done the update internally.

Hopefully, this is just one of several issues fixed in an upcoming patch. Players are also waiting on fixes for other bugs, like the Arch-Mage Robes clipping through characters or NPCs like Savlian Matius, who are unable to enter Castle Kvatch. These glitches might be minor, but they chip away at the experience for those who cherish the game’s quirks.

What do you think about this texture error? Does losing the little joke on Lelle’s sign bother you, or is it just a minor hiccup in an otherwise solid remaster? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
