SCUM Update #129: Anti-Cheat Delay, Bug Fixes, and Community Feedback

SCUM fans have a fresh update to catch up on. The developers recently shared their Development Update #129, including an important announcement about the planned anti-cheat system release delay. Alongside this, plenty of bug fixes and optimizations have been underway across various teams. You must know if you’ve been following this survival game’s progress.

Important Announcement: Anti-Cheat System Postponed

The new anti-cheat system was scheduled for release this month, but encountered unexpected technical difficulties during testing. To ensure it performs as well as possible once live, the developers decided to delay its rollout by a couple of weeks. They emphasized their commitment to quality over rushing the feature out.

This Week’s Focus: Bug Fixing and Optimizations Across Teams

The programming team has shifted attention largely to fixing bugs and improving performance. Their work also includes refining lighting and reflections throughout the game world, debugging puppets (non-player characters), polishing NPC behavior, and tweaking how clothing wetness behaves under different conditions.

The level design group continued with extensive bug fixing efforts—lots of bugs again—but they are methodically addressing issues that affect player experience.

Animators have paused other tasks to focus on a new trailer for the game. While doing so, they’ve been experimenting with new visuals for male character locomotion animations and squashing bugs as usual.

The hard surface team is working on optimizing queries related to the Big Raft feature, improving vehicle shapes along with enhancements for the quest book interface—all while contributing their share of bug fixes.

Soft surface artists are concentrating on cloth items—making their meshes look more natural when dropped on floors—and preparing assets needed for the upcoming trailer.

The sound department has made adjustments to knock-out sounds and forest ambience soundscapes, alongside fixing related bugs.

Bugs continue to be relentlessly hunted down by various teams as testing proceeds—the obvious takeaway is that rest isn’t part of their current schedule!

The design crew has made tweaks specifically targeting the famepoint system while maintaining ongoing bugfix routines too.

Community Impressions From Last Week And Developer Responses

Player suggestion about planting trees

  • These are some nice ideas and we do want do make it possible to plant an apple tree here and an orange tree there eventually. These elements are pretty draining perfomance wise, though, which is why we’ll be looking into that more after the full release.

Squad system suggestions

  • There will be some additions to the squad system, just not the ones you have suggested. The ideas are pretty good though and we might consider something similar, eventually.

Technical limitations discussion

  • It’s hard to say, due to the technical limitations that would pose a problem with implementing such a feature. For now we’re focused on things we can deliver.

Seaplane announcement

  • Well, the Seaplane is already on its way to you and you can rest assured we will continue to support SCUM after the 1.0 release, which includes new content as well.

Funny survival animation referenced

  • Efficiency is key to survival and one cannot afford to waste recources like that if they intend to see the next day. The animation is also quite funny. The Trazan method is here to stay.
