AMD has finally revealed official details, release date, and prices for its new RDNA 4 GPUs, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070XT. So, did AMD deliver this time, or did they disappoint us? Let’s find out.
Let’s start with the specs. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 will have 56 compute units and 16GB of GDDR6. It will require 220W and can boost up to 2520MHz. On the other hand, the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT will have 64 compute units and 16GB of GDDR6. It will need 304W and can boost up to 2970MHz.
The good news is that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 will be priced at $549, while the RX 9070XT will retail for $599. Yep, AMD appears to have finally learned its lesson. If these prices hold steady at launch, we might see a GPU that resonates well with PC gamers.
A glance at some gaming benchmarks reveals that the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT is about 2% slower than the NVIDIA RTX 5070Ti across 30 games. However, considering that the NVIDIA card has an MSRP of $749, which is quite a bit higher than that of the RX 9070XT, it puts things into perspective.
The performance per dollar metric is even more enticing; the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT reportedly shows a 23% better performance per dollar than the NVIDIA RTX 5070Ti. If AMD’s AIB keeps its pricing in check, we may see a winner here.
The real question is how AIBs will price these cards. If they inflate their prices, as with NVIDIA’s recent offerings, momentum could quickly fade for the RX 9070XT. However, seeing these cards available under $600, as expected, could mark a significant victory for AMD.
