War Thunder is giving the American tree a jet built for speed, not missiles

Gaijin said the Rank VI F-101C Voodoo will join the Heavy Cavalry major update with radar, RWR, and 20 mm cannons, but no air-to-air missiles.

Gaijin Entertainment will add the F-101C Voodoo to War Thunder‘s American interceptor line in the Heavy Cavalry major update, bringing in a Rank VI jet that leans hard on speed rather than missile play.

The company says the Voodoo’s calling cards are a strong climb rate, a top speed above 1,550 km/h at altitude, radar, RWR, and a pair of 20 mm cannons with 800 rounds. It will not carry air-to-air missiles, so this one is built as a pure interceptor and gunfighter.

Gaijin also positioned the aircraft as a bridge between the early F-80C-10 and the later F-104A Starfighter. In the studio’s view, that should give the Voodoo room to fight early MiG-21 variants, the MiG-19 family, and other Rank VI aircraft without feeling like a mismatch in the lineup.

The real aircraft has the pedigree to back that up. McDonnell developed the Voodoo for long-range escort duty, the first F-101A flew in 1954, and the strengthened F-101C first took off on August 21, 1957. Only 47 F-101Cs were built, and a modified F-101A later set a world speed record in 1957 at 1,943.5 km/h.

Gaijin also said the aircraft’s specifications may still change before it is added to the game. Tell us what you think about the F-101C Voodoo in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
