Up to 75 Supermassive Games Employees Could Be Affected by New Consultation
A similar process was announced a little over a year earlier, while CEO Robert Henrysson said in June 2026 that he would step down after two years.

Supermassive Games has begun a redundancy consultation that could affect up to 75 employees. The Guildford, Surrey-based studio called the move necessary for the company’s sustainability and said, “We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted,” in a statement shared by its official account on August 11, 2026.
The process comes a little over a year after a similar consultation in July 2025 that was expected to affect up to 36 employees. Supermassive had also cut about 90 employees in February 2024. Around the same period, Directive 8020 was delayed from October 2025 to 2026 before the game was released in May 2026. It currently holds a 72 score on Metacritic. Since those earlier cuts, the studio has also released The Casting of Frank Stone and Little Nightmares III.
Separately, CEO Robert Henrysson announced in late June 2026 that he would step down after two years at the studio’s helm.
Supermassive Games’ work beyond Directive 8020
The studio has produced DLC for several LittleBigPlanet games and developed Until Dawn, which released in 2015, along with The Quarry and the Little Nightmares trilogy.
Supermassive is also known for The Dark Pictures Anthology. Its first four entries—Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me—were published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. As the fifth entry in the wider anthology, Directive 8020 was presented as the beginning of its second season and was self-published by Supermassive.
Looking further ahead, Until Dawn 2 is planned for 2027 and is set to star Dacre Montgomery and Neil Newbon.
Supermassive has not announced which teams or projects may be affected by the consultation.
The consultation is now the latest major development for the studio, but the final number of affected employees has not been confirmed. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow along on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
