The Finals Update 5.9.0 Brings Balance Changes

Discover the latest balance changes and weapon tweaks in The Finals update.

The world of The Finals is ing with excitement this week as we welcome Update 5.9.0, which comes packed with essential balance changes and some noteworthy adjustments to weapons. If you’ve been feeling the pace of gameplay has been a bit off lately, you’re not alone—let’s dig into what this update means for all you players out there!

This time around, the developers have taken a moment to acknowledge community frustrations regarding the frequency of balance updates. After adjusting their approach at the end of Season 3, they decided it was time for a change once again. Starting from Season 6, expect a more regular rhythm with balance updates rolling out roughly every three weeks! It’s like they heard us and are ready to keep things fresh while giving their team ample time to test those tweaks.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some specific changes that came through in this patch:

Patch Notes

Weapons

Dagger

  • Decreased the backstab angle on the Dagger’s secondary attack from 180 degrees to 150.

Dev Note: This change addresses concerns about the Dagger’s backstab being inaccurate and the frustration around how easily it can land backstabs, seemingly from the side. With this change, this should be less of an issue.

On a related note, we’ve noticed some community members testing melee mechanics in the Practice Range using target dummies. However, these dummies use slightly different hit detection logic compared to real players, making them an un test for certain interactions. For example, we’ve seen reports of players landing melee hits on dummies while facing away from them. This is a quirk of the dummies and does not apply to actual players.

To improve testing accuracy, we plan to replace the current target dummies with updated versions soon. This will that the dummies provide more feedback, especially for testing certain Gadgets. However, this change will take some time and testing before it is ready to deploy.

KS-23

  • Increased min damage falloff multiplier from 0.6 to 0.7; meaning the weapon now does slightly more damage at long-range.
  • Decreased bullet dispersion when aiming down sights to increase accuracy in various stances (such as crouching or running).

Dev Note: The KS-23 has been struggling after recent fixes to ‘manual actions’ in Update 5.8. We recognize that these changes had an unintended negative impact on its performance; we want to make sure it feels more viable in gameplay.

With this update, we’re making adjustments to help get KS-23 back on track; but rest assured this isn’t our last step—we’ll continue monitoring its performance and exploring additional ways to improve if needed.

If you’re interested in checking out more details about these updates or want a visual breakdown of everything that’s new—don’t miss watching their official video here:  And for even deeper insight straight from developers’ hands (and who doesn’t love getting info directly?), check out their original post here.

This update certainly addresses community sentiment while promising improvements down the line! What do you think about these weapon tweaks? Are they hitting home runs for your play style? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
