Sunkenland’s public test branch brings warships into the fight

Update v0.8.01 on the Public Test Branch adds ship capture, new naval weapons, fresh locations, and a redesigned quest system.

Sunkenland has pushed a hefty v0.8.01 update to the Public Test Branch, and the focus is squarely on the sea. Players can now capture enemy warships, outfit them with new ship-mounted weapons, and head toward a broader late-game stretch that adds new underwater ruins, a renamed trading hub, and a final battle zone on Paradise Island.

The patch also breaks quests into main and side categories, adds new fish and base items, and gives ship handling a few quality-of-life touches so stranded vessels are not left at the mercy of the terrain.

Patch Notes

The biggest changes in v0.8.01 affect naval combat, late-game exploration, and quest flow. Sunkenland now gives players a reason to chase ships on the water, build around ship-mounted gear, and push deeper into the map with a clearer quest structure.

System Updates

Naval Combat System Update

In this update, players can now capture enemy warships encountered along shipping routes and convert them into their own vessels.

A total of five new combat ships have been added.

Armed Fishing Boat

The most basic combat vessel. Can equip one weapon.

Armed Speedboat

Slightly stronger than the Armed Fishing Boat, featuring more upgrade slots and the ability to equip one weapon.

Heavy Armored Speedboat

Compared to the Armed Speedboat, it features heavier armor, more upgrade slots, and can equip two weapons.

Slave Ship

A cargo vessel used by slave traders to transport captives. Equipped with:

  • One forward cannon mount
  • One rear cannon mount
  • One machine gun mount on the second deck

Armed Ferry

Features:

  • Two storage chests
  • Advanced Water Purifier on the second deck
  • Slower movement speed

Heavy Firepower Armed Speedboat

An upgraded combat speedboat equipped with:

  • One forward cannon mount
  • Two machine gun mounts
  • High movement speed

Because warships are much larger than normal boats, they may occasionally become stuck in terrain.

To solve this issue, a new “Push” icon has been added to the bow of ships, allowing players to manually push stuck vessels free.

Ship Weapons

Naval Anti-Air Cannon

A rapid-fire large-caliber weapon that deals substantial damage with a relatively small explosion radius. Can only be installed on cannon mounts.

Naval Cannon

A single-shot weapon that deals the highest damage in the game.

Features:

  • Slow reload speed
  • Large explosion radius

Can only be installed on cannon mounts.

Naval Machine Gun

The most basic ship-mounted weapon.

Features:

  • Highest fire rate
  • No explosive effect

Can be installed on any weapon slot.

Naval Autocannon

Deals more damage than the Naval Machine Gun and fires slightly slower, but has a small explosion radius. Can be installed on any weapon slot.

Automatic Naval Autocannon

An autocannon that fires automatically and requires no manual reloading. Can be installed on any weapon slot.

Automatic Naval Machine Gun

A machine gun that fires automatically and requires no manual reloading. Can be installed on any weapon slot.

All ship-mounted weapons can be crafted at the Ship Workbench, using a system similar to the Gun Workbench.

To improve inventory management, unequipped ship weapons are stored in a virtual ship cargo inventory rather than occupying backpack slots. Players can freely install or remove weapons through the interface.

All ship weapon ammunition is crafted at the Ammunition Workbench.

Coastal Defense Turrets

Some weapons proved unsuitable for naval combat during testing and have instead been converted into land-based defensive turrets:

  • Nail Gun Cannon
  • Molotov Launcher
  • Explosive Barrel Launcher
  • Explosive Bolt Launcher

All except the Nail Gun Turret are blueprint-based structures. Their ammunition can be crafted at the Black Powder Weapons Workbench. The Nail Gun Turret is unlocked through the Tier 2 Research Station and fires crossbow bolts.

Ship Repair Platform

Tier 4 Research Station structure.

Functions:

  • Repairs damaged ships within range
  • Quickly installs equipment onto ships within range

New Locations

Airport – Underwater Ruins (Level 4)

  • Rich in clay deposits used for making bricks.
  • The underwater area is extremely dark, so don’t forget to bring a Night Vision Goggles.

Ship Graveyard – Underwater Ruins (Level 5)

Entering through the cave entrance will lead you to a massive underground cavern. At the bottom, you’ll find a Copper Ore Vein.

Unlike standard copper deposits, ore veins can be mined infinitely and require the use of an Electric Drill.

Iron Ore Veins

Two new underwater Iron Ore Veins have been added and also require an Electric Drill to mine.

Some Level 4 and higher combat zones now feature Coastal Defense Turrets. These can be destroyed by eliminating their operators. The most effective way to deal with them is by using ship-mounted weapons, although sniper rifles and other long-range weapons can also be used.

Great Bridge

The Great Bridge has been renamed to the Great Bridge Trading Post.

The Guns Merchant has been relocated here.

This location is now a neutral area. A group of pirates will initially spawn there. Once all pirates have been eliminated, the Guns Merchant’s shop will open and enemies will no longer respawn.

A new Flower Shop has also been added to the original Great Bridge combat area. Players can purchase various decorative flowers here for base decoration.

Unlocked through the progression line.

Trading Post

The Trading Post is now hidden by default. It can be unlocked through the Radio Tower signal “Trading Post Communications.”

Changes:

  • Guns Merchant moved to the Great Bridge.
  • Furniture Merchant moved to Eden Island.

Eden Island

Several new NPCs have been added to Eden Island. After all enemies on the island have been defeated, these NPCs will emerge.

Merchants available on Eden Island:

  • Ornamental Fish Merchant
  • Advanced General Goods Merchant
  • Furniture Merchant

Floating Shelter

Additional content has been added to this location. A new boss has been added: The Pirate King. The Pirate King drops a unique weapon:

Flintlock Pistol

The Flintlock Pistol has been removed from the Black Powder Weapons Workbench and is now exclusively dropped by this boss. Its damage has also been increased.

Neptune

A new underwater area has been added as part of a side quest.

This area can be accessed through a pipe and allows players to explore sections of the ship buried beneath the sand in order to complete the quest.

Pirate Armed Transport Ship

Level 5 combat location. Unlocked through a radio signal received during a side quest.

Note: This ship is a combat location and cannot be captured or sailed.

Paradise Island

Paradise Island serves as the final battle area of the game and is an enormous island containing four major combat locations:

  • Military Port
  • Rolling Stone Fortress
  • Winding Mountain Fortress
  • Underground Fortress

A new world map region, Paradise Island, has also been added at the southernmost part of the map.

All of the new combat locations listed above, except for the Pirate Armed Transport Ship, are located within the Paradise Island region.

Tip: Paradise Island is protected by powerful coastal defense systems. We strongly recommend bringing a warship before attempting to explore and conquer the area.

New Items

Aquarium

A place where you can display the ornamental fish you’ve collected and watch them swim freely. You can also grow Red Algae at the bottom of the aquarium. Can be obtained at the Playground.

The Aquarium consists of three parts:

  • Base
  • Expansion Section (Aquarium Tank)
  • Entrance Door

Players can freely enter and exit the Aquarium through the door.

The Aquarium is equipped with advanced oxygenation technology, so there is no need to worry about running out of oxygen inside.

A control panel is located at the front of the Aquarium. Interacting with it opens the Aquarium interface.

Once opened, you can transfer ornamental fish from your inventory into the Aquarium. Of course, ornamental fish are still fish… You can cook and eat them if you want.

Electric Drill

Powered by batteries.

Can be used to mine ores and ore veins. Warship Blueprint Item. Can only be obtained by capturing ships and opening their rear cargo compartments.

Solar Welder

No more worrying about power shortages when repairing bases or ships. It is a Warship Blueprint Item that can only be obtained by capturing ships and opening their rear cargo compartments.

Large Battery

When connected to a power network, all generators in that network receive a 25% power output increase. This effect stacks.

Antenna

When powered, it displays enemy ship routes and can receive mission signals. Obtained through the main storyline via blueprint unlock.

Rebreather Tank

Reduces oxygen consumption by 75%. Obtained through a side quest.

Resource Recycler

Requires electricity. Blueprint obtained through a side quest. Allows players to automatically collect resources based on the selected resource type.

Vinyl Machine

Unlocked in the Mansion. The Vinyl Machine now includes music playback functionality. Players can discover records hidden inside wardrobes throughout the world to unlock songs. A total of 8 tracks can be collected and played.

New Ornamental Fish

A total of 30 new ornamental fish species have been added. They can be found throughout the world in various locations, such as around the Mansion near Drifter Island.

How to Catch Ornamental Fish

These fish aren’t particularly fast. Simply get close and catch them by hand.

Special Fish: Discus

One special fish has been added: the Discus. Color-variant Discus cannot be found in the wild. They can only be obtained by trading juvenile Discus with the Contract Merchant.

Quest System Update

The quest system has been completely redesigned and is now divided into:

  • Main Quests
  • Side Quests

Side quests are accepted by receiving signals through the Radio Station.
