Star Citizen alpha 4.8 lands with a bigger reset after duping complaints
Cloud Imperium Games now plans to wipe earned aUEC, bought vehicles, items, resources, reputation progression, and Wikelo and Executive Hangar rewards when alpha 4.8 goes live on Wednesday, May 13.

Star Citizen alpha 4.8 landed on Wednesday, May 13, and Cloud Imperium Games widened the wipe after players spent days calling out duping exploits tied to Wikelo rewards.
The studio first said the patch would clear in-game resources, vehicles bought with aUEC, and the currency balance itself, but that plan drew pushback as forum threads on Roberts Space Industries kept warning about duplication tricks. In one thread, a player argued that CIG was encouraging cheating, while another post claimed the problem was spreading through trading networks and Discord groups.
In a Spectrum update, CIG said, “Alpha 4.8 will include a comprehensive wipe.” The reset now covers earned aUEC, in-game purchased vehicles, items, resources, reputation progression, and Wikelo and Executive Hangar rewards. Blueprints stay in place, along with any item or vehicle that is already tied to an account and shown in the “My Hangar” page on the Roberts Space Industries site.
The studio also said it has added extra safeguards to cut down on exploits and duplication issues, with more changes still to come. Alongside the wipe, alpha 4.8 adds Tactical Strike Groups, a co-op activity centered on ship-based teamwork, plus hangar services for repairs, refueling, and rearming. A DefenseCon free fly runs from Thursday, May 14, through Wednesday, May 27.
Star Citizen’s reset may sting for players sitting on a pile of gear, but it also gives CIG a cleaner slate for the next stage of alpha 4.8. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
