Spelunky 2 is the sequel to the viral indie rogue-lite game Spelunky, in which players look for and discover treasures in various locations. The sequel takes us to the Moon, and even if the game launched with very positive critical acclaim for the PC and PS4, it has been having many problems with its multiplayer.
The multiplayer first faced issues on the PS4, so a multiplayer mode was delayed on the PC. Mossmouth has now confirmed that online play is in open beta on PC.
This did not come up at all during the closed beta, and we suspected that the addition of multiple servers in preparation for the (much larger, more global) public beta might be related to the issue.
Spelunky 2 will also get cross-platform multiplayer between the PS4 and PC editions during the first half of 2021. Along with the first game, Switch will arrive on Switch during the Summer 2021 release window. We’re hoping that Mossmouth will fix all of their multiplayer problems by then so that the release on the Nintendo Switch goes smoothly.
