Blizzard has introduced age verification for some Battle.net accounts, with players in the UK who have said they are over 18 required to confirm their age before they can keep using certain social and age-restricted features. The change is tied to the UK Online Safety Act.
The requirement applies only in regions where age checks are required by law. Players who are not affected can continue using Battle.net as usual, while those who see an Age Verification banner in their account settings will need to complete the process.
How Battle.net age verification works
Blizzard lists three ways for eligible players to confirm their age: a government-issued ID check, a credit card check, or verification through a mobile provider. The steps begin in the Battle.net Account Settings page, where the verification prompt should appear for affected accounts.
Blizzard’s age verification FAQ says the policy also supports its “ongoing investments in tools and technologies that help ensure age-appropriate experiences.” Players in the UK who have indicated that they are over 18 are the specific group asked to complete the check.
Accounts that need verification will lose access to certain Battle.net functions if the owner declines or postpones the process. That includes social interactions such as voice and text chat, along with age-restricted content. Completing the check later restores the account immediately, according to Blizzard.
The change matters across Blizzard’s PC lineup, including World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Diablo 4. Players who use Battle.net for those games should check their account settings to see whether the verification banner is present.
