Gamepires published a new SCUM’s Development Update #145, laying out work ahead of the next update, including ongoing bug fixes and an upcoming inventory rework, along with other tweaks. The programming team is busy addressing reports that came in after the last release, and they’re also testing new features that will ship with the next update. The post highlights that much of the immediate work is about squashing bugs, while some developers are already experimenting with new systems.
Level designers have been focusing on playtesting the current build and are also starting to scope out longer-term content. The team teases several plans that are not yet ready for full details, but says they’re promising. The art team spent most of their time on playtests as well, with specific groups handling particular tasks. Animators worked on sickness and stun effects for NPCs, while other artists focused on female clothing and soft surface work.
The sound team continues to fix audio bugs and is reworking older effects, while also creating sounds for disease states and barefoot movement. Game designers are combing through community feedback and addressing issues reported by players, with a steady focus on fixes ahead of feature polish. The devs note that this week’s update is a bit lighter than usual, which they attribute to post-release work. They promise there will be more to share next week. The studio also released a short explainer video from programmer Dominik, which walks through the new Encounter manager settings, showing how the system works and offering examples to help you set encounters the way you want.
If you follow SCUM closely, these changes matter most to players waiting on inventory improvements and anyone who adjusts encounter settings on private servers. Please share your thoughts in the comments and follow us on X and Bluesky.
