Project Zomboid’s 42.20.2 Hotfix Fixes Mod Percent Errors
The stable update also corrects quick-tip formatting, adds FPS debug data, and is not expected to break saves.

Project Zomboid version 42.20.2 is now available on the stable branch after the developers released the hotfix on August 5, 2026. The update focuses on technical issues involving percent symbols in files, with mod authors receiving the clearest action item: use %% when a mod needs to display %.
The developers detailed the changes in a Steam announcement. A temporary workaround currently accepts both methods, but mod authors will need to update their files before that workaround is removed in a future unstable update. Error logs will also point out files that need attention.
The hotfix is not expected to affect existing saves. If a problem appears, players should reproduce it on a fresh save with no mods installed before submitting it through the bug reports forum.
This release follows the earlier 42.20.1 stable hotfix, which focused on multiplayer lag, memory use, and compatibility problems. Version 42.20.2 keeps its scope narrower, concentrating on file handling, quick-tip formatting, and debug information.
