Project Wingman is $12.50 in Steam’s Autumn Sale, offering a cheaper entry point for arcade-style dogfights ahead of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve‘s October 2 launch. Its Steam store page also shows an Overwhelmingly Positive review rating, with 93% of more than 22,000 reviews favorable.
The price gap is clear next to Ace Combat 8, whose Xbox Series X|S Standard Edition is priced at $69.99. Project Wingman gives PC players a less expensive way to try missile-heavy aerial combat before deciding whether to spend more on the upcoming game.
Project Wingman began as a portfolio project for its developers. A Kickstarter campaign later raised nearly three times its funding goal, and the game launched on Steam in December 2020. It takes clear inspiration from Ace Combat, with high-intensity, missile-filled battles that can veer into near-absurd territory.
The game also has its own roguelike Conquest Mode. Players fight enemy squadrons for territory, then use money earned from completed missions to build up their air fleets. That gives the discount more to offer than a lower-cost imitation of another series.
HOTAS compatibility supports flight-stick setups, and native VR support offers another way to experience its high-G turns. Between those options and Conquest Mode, Project Wingman has several distinct features beyond its arcade dogfights.
