Pokémon GO’s Summer Marathon Timed Research Has One Player Considering Evening Runs

A player screenshot appears to connect the 42 km milestone with a Marathon Costume Pikachu encounter, although the research's wider availability remains unconfirmed.

Pokémon GO has put one player’s plan to start running in a new light: a timed research page built around distance appeared just as they were considering whether to run every evening.

After getting back into Pokémon GO, they said the game had already helped them move more, making the Summer Marathon Timed Research feel like an unusually timely nudge.

Four distance goals and 4,200 XP each

At the time of the screenshot, the research page showed that it would end in 6 days and 2 hours. Its objectives were:

  • Explore 5 km for 4,200 XP
  • Explore 10 km for 4,200 XP
  • Explore 21 km for 4,200 XP
  • Explore 42 km for 4,200 XP

The bottom of the screen includes a reward panel, but its small icon is not clear enough to identify on its own. A separate player screenshot pairs the 42 km milestone with an encounter presented as a Marathon Costume Pikachu, suggesting that it may be the final reward. The screenshots confirm what appeared in one player’s app, but they do not confirm how widely the research was available or whether every Trainer saw the same countdown.

With 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km on one research page, Pokémon GO is making the running prompt hard to miss. Whether that turns into an evening routine is still up to them.
