Pokémon GO’s Dynamax Magmar Max Monday Was Built for Solo Trainers

The Tier 3 Fire-type Max Battle cost 400 MP and featured weaknesses to Ground, Rock, and Water attacks.

Pokémon GO’s Magmar Max Monday took place on August 1, 2026, giving Trainers the first chance to catch Dynamax Magmar in Power Spots throughout the day. The Fire-type Pokémon appeared as a Tier 3 Max Battle boss, and each battle cost 400 MP.

Dynamax Magmar was weak to Ground, Rock, and Water attacks. The battle could also be completed solo, although a well-organized group made it easier to manage the boss and rotate through attacker, defender, and healer roles.

Best Counters for Dynamax Magmar

The strongest attacking choice was Gigantamax Inteleon, whose G-Max Hydrosnipe dealt super-effective Water damage. Gigantamax Kingler and Dynamax Inteleon were also strong Water-type picks, while Dynamax Excadrill offered a powerful Ground option with Max Quake.

  • Gigantamax Inteleon with G-Max Hydrosnipe
  • Gigantamax Kingler with G-Max Foam Burst
  • Dynamax Inteleon with Max Geyser
  • Dynamax Excadrill with Max Quake
  • Rapid Strike Urshifu with Max Geyser
  • Dynamax Kingler with Max Geyser

For the defensive role, Dynamax Regirock was the top pick. Its Rock typing resisted Magmar’s possible attacks and its fast move helped charge the Max Meter quickly. Dynamax Latias, Dynamax Suicune, Dynamax Omastar, Dynamax Latios, and Dynamax Blastoise were other options.

Dynamax Blissey was the recommended healer. Dynamax Wailord, Dynamax Snorlax, Gigantamax Lapras, Dynamax Vaporeon, and Eternatus could also fill the healing role.

Suggested Team Setup

A group could include up to four Trainers. The recommended setup was two attacking teams, one defender, and one healer. Each Trainer brought three Pokémon, starting with a charger that used a 0.5-second fast move before switching to two attackers.

Fast Moves determined the typing of Max Moves during the Dynamax phase, so the move choice mattered even when a Pokémon’s Charged Moves looked stronger on paper. Once the Max Meter filled, Trainers could switch to their attacker and then return to another Pokémon after the Dynamax phase ended.

Dynamax Magmar’s Moves

Dynamax Magmar could use two Fast Moves and four Charged Moves:

  • Fast Moves: Ember and Karate Chop
  • Charged Moves: Scorching Sands, Fire Blast, Fire Punch, and Flamethrower

Max Battle Tips

During the fight, use Fast Attacks to build the Max Meter. When the meter fills, the active Pokémon automatically Dynamaxes for three turns. Trainers had three seconds to choose which Pokémon would enter the Dynamax phase, and the meter could refill for another transformation during the same battle.

Max Guard created up to three shields for the Pokémon using it. A defender could draw the boss’s focused attacks away from the rest of the group, while Max Spirit restored health to active Pokémon on the battlefield. Communication helped the group decide when to shield, heal, or focus on damage.

If every Pokémon fainted during a three-star or higher battle with other Trainers, the defeated player could still cheer for teammates and help them fill their meters faster.

Dynamax Magmar’s Max Monday has finished, but the counter lineup remains useful whenever the Pokémon returns to Max Battles. Tell us which attacker and team role worked best for you, and share your thoughts in the comments. You can also follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
