Pokémon GO may have revealed an early clue about how Mega Greninja will work in future Super Mega Raids. An in-game message says that a Greninja caught from those raids may already have at least one Mega Level unlocked, which would allow Mega Evolution without spending Mega Energy.
That is a useful hint, but not a confirmed raid schedule. Mega Chesnaught, Mega Greninja, and Mega Delphox are scheduled to debut during Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale on September 5 and 6. The new wording points beyond that debut window, yet it does not say when Greninja will appear in Super Mega Raids or whether the same rule will apply to every raid boss.
The Mega Evolution panel shows 300 Mega Energy beside the button. Its explanatory text reads, “Greninja caught from Super Mega Raids may already have at least one Mega Level unlocked, requiring no Mega Energy for Mega Evolution.” In practice, that suggests raid encounters could arrive with Mega progress already attached, even though the standard panel still displays an energy value.
Earlier UI evidence showed Chesnaught’s Mega Evolve option with a 300 Mega Energy cost, but it did not establish when the other Kalos starters would receive the same treatment. The Greninja wording is more specific about Super Mega Raid catches, though the “may” keeps it from being a firm promise. It could be a message intended for a particular raid rule, or a standard template used for Super Mega Pokémon more broadly.
For now, Trainers can treat this as a sign that Mega Greninja’s first raid encounter may offer a no-energy path into Mega Evolution rather than proof of a future event. The text also does not confirm matching raid plans for Mega Chesnaught and Mega Delphox, so those two remain tied to their announced September debut until more details arrive.
