Pokémon GO Players May Have a Max Monday Trick for More Rare Candy XL

A player claims that checking Power Spots during the first 30 seconds of each hour can open cheaper battles for solo Trainers.

Pokémon GO’s Max Monday events may have a useful workaround for Trainers who want to stretch their Max Particles or struggle with Tier 3 battles alone. A Reddit post from /u/abhilashatthili claims that Power Spots briefly change their featured Pokémon at the start of each hour.

According to the post, that change creates a window of roughly 30 seconds. During it, Trainers may be able to find a different Pokémon or a Tier 1 Max Battle instead of immediately taking on the featured Max Monday boss. Tier 1 battles cost 250 Max Particles, which could make them a cheaper option for players trying to get more value from their stored particles.

The post also claims that in-person Max Battles still provide a Rare Candy XL reward, even when the encounter is not the featured Max Monday Pokémon. The author said they noticed the behavior while battling Drampa in pursuit of a Dynamax Shiny and shared a reward screen showing one Rare Candy XL, one Drampa Candy XL, 10,000 XP, and 12 Premier Balls with an in-person bonus.

This is a player-reported method rather than a confirmed Niantic feature, so the hourly Power Spot behavior and its effect on Rare Candy XL gains have not been independently verified. Trainers who want to test it should watch a nearby Power Spot as the clock reaches the top of the hour, then check whether the available battle changes before committing Max Particles.

What Max Monday players should try

  • Keep enough Max Particles in storage before the event begins.
  • Watch a nearby Power Spot as a new hour starts.
  • Check the first 30 seconds for a different Pokémon or a Tier 1 battle.
  • Consider the 250-particle Tier 1 option if a Tier 3 boss is too difficult to defeat solo.
  • Remember that the post claims the featured Pokémon can continue resetting hourly until 10:00 p.m., although battles reportedly cannot be started after 9:00 p.m. A non-featured encounter may still be visible at 10:00 p.m., but the author says it is locked by then.

The timing may be easy to miss, but it could give solo Trainers another way to spend their particles during Max Monday. The results may vary, so share your thoughts in the comments if you test the method, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
