Pokémon GO will turn up the heat and cool things down at the same time with Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers, an upcoming event featuring the first chance to encounter Shiny Snom. The event will run from Tuesday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. through Monday, August 10, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time, according to the official Pokémon GO announcement.
Snom will appear through GO Pass tasks and Eggs, giving Trainers more than one way to hunt for its Shiny version. The event will also raise the chances of finding Shiny Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite. Time to dust off those Incubators and prepare for a very chilly week.
Wild Pokémon will rotate throughout the event
Event-themed Pokémon will appear in the wild, including Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, Growlithe, Swinub, and Snorunt. Ponyta and Snover will have their rotating appearances on August 4, 6, 8, and 10. Slugma and Vanillite will take over on August 5, 7, 9, and 10.
That schedule gives each pair several spotlight days, with all four returning on the final day. Shiny hunters will also have the increased chances listed for Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite during the event.
GO Pass rewards include XP and shorter hatch distances
Every Trainer will automatically receive the free GO Pass: Summer Marathon when the event begins. Collecting GO Points from Pass tasks will raise the rank and unlock rewards through August 10 at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Reaching Rank 10 will unlock the Tier 1 bonus of 2× XP for spinning a PokéStop. The GO Pass Deluxe version will raise that bonus to 3× XP.
Rank 20 brings the Tier 2 bonus, cutting Egg Hatch Distance in half when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event. GO Pass Deluxe will reduce the distance to one-quarter. More bonus tasks for the GO Pass will also appear during the event.
The free GO Pass will offer encounters with event-themed Pokémon, Stardust, XP, Rare Candy, Ultra Balls, and other rewards. The paid track will add more Pokémon encounters, Incense, Silver Pinap Berries, Rare Candy XL, Candy XL, and other items.
GO Pass Deluxe pricing and rewards
GO Pass Deluxe will cost US$4.99. A second option, GO Pass Deluxe + 6 Ranks, will cost US$6.99 and will provide enough GO Points to reach Rank 7 automatically.
Trainers can upgrade at any point and still claim rewards from ranks they already unlocked. However, the rewards must be claimed by Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time, when they expire.
Free Timed Research and 5 km Eggs
A free Timed Research track will be available during Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers. Its rewards will include 16,800 XP and an encounter with Pikachu wearing a marathon visor. That visor is doing a lot of work for one tiny mouse.
Event-themed Field Research will also provide encounters with Pokémon such as Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite.

GO Pass Deluxe upgrades purchased through the Pokémon GO Web Store will activate when the GO Pass begins. Upgrading to GO Pass Deluxe: Summer Marathon or GO Pass Deluxe: Summer Marathon + 6 Ranks will include 10 Ultra Balls, five Max Revives, one Premium Battle Pass, and five Max Potions as a gift with purchase.
