Paradox’s Afterworld Strategy Game Leaks Before Its August 25 Reveal

A removed forum listing and Discord description pointed to survivor tribes, wasteland settlements, old-world technology, and political conflict before Paradox publicly confirmed the project.

Paradox Interactive’s next game appears to have surfaced before its formal reveal. A public slip exposed Afterworld, a post-apocalyptic survival grand strategy game, ahead of its planned August 25 debut at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Paradox has not formally introduced or confirmed the project, making the August 25 presentation its first scheduled public reveal.

Reddit user DimDimio found the name while browsing a filter for “Unreleased Games” on Paradox’s official forum. Following the publisher’s usual URL patterns led to a Discord server for the project, whose description presented Afterworld as a survival-focused grand-strategy game about leading a tribe of survivors, recovering ancient technology from the old world, managing settlements across the wasteland, and waging wars of conquest and political struggle.

The trail did not remain available for long. References to Afterworld were removed from the forum, and access to the Discord server was cut off. A follow-up comment also noted that no Archive.org copy had survived, so the game’s name and leaked details remain unconfirmed.

Paradox had already started pointing toward a Gamescom announcement. Its teaser used apocalyptic scenes from previous games, including a ruined castle from Crusader Kings 3 and an exploding spaceship from Stellaris, before directing attention to the show.

The publisher’s official teaser page also showed a desert storm concealing half-buried structures, a machete, and a stick planted in the ground with a makeshift flag. None of those images confirms the Afterworld name, but the wasteland imagery lines up with the leaked description.

Afterworld puts survivors and wasteland politics at the center

If the description is accurate, Paradox is moving away from its familiar historical and space settings to place a survivor society at the center of a campaign. Settlement management, old-world research, territorial warfare, and internal power struggles could make leadership as dangerous as any threat beyond the walls.

Paradox’s earlier teaser left room for almost anything, and fan guesses ranged from a fantasy 4X game to another Stellaris project or more downloadable content for existing titles. The leaked material instead points toward a new strategy IP, although the company still has to show how those systems work in practice.

Paradox still has the official reveal ahead

The leak changes how the August 25 presentation will land, but the first Afterworld trailer should provide the clearest look at the project and show whether the leaked description matches the finished game.

For now, the forum slip has supplied Afterworld’s name and broad premise, while the official debut remains scheduled for August 25. The presentation is part of the broader Gamescom Opening Night Live lineup. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow the publication on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.

Stellaris

Stellaris is a real-time 4X grand strategy game set in a procedurally generated galaxy. Players control an interstellar civilization, exploring star systems connected by hyperlane networks, colonizing habitable worlds, and managing their empire's economy across resources like energy, minerals, and alloys. The game emphasizes empire customization through species traits, ethics, government types, and civics that shape both aesthetics and mechanics. Gameplay progresses through diplomacy, trade, and warfare with other civilizations, while mid-game and late-game galactic crises introduce escalating threats such as extragalactic invasions or hostile artificial intelligence awakenings. Players can pursue ascension paths including genetic engineering, cybernetic augmentation, or psionic abilities. Originally released for PC, the game later received a console edition and has been supported with numerous expansions adding megastructures, new empire types, espionage mechanics, and additional crisis scenarios.
