Owlcat launches free GameDev Learning Drop with over 350 curated resources

Owlcat Games has launched GameDev Learning Drop, a free, curated directory of learning materials aimed at game developers. The Cyprus-based studio built the initial list with help from Midwest Games, Fireshine Games, Gaijin Entertainment, and 11 Bit Studios.

The collection, which the studio says contains “over 350 learning resources,” covers game design, programming, narrative design, project management, and more. Owlcat says the idea began as an internal practice where team leads shared useful materials with junior colleagues, then grew into a public resource other studios could contribute to.

Owlcat is currently working on a sci-fi RPG set in the world of The Expanse, and the studio framed the directory as a way to give back after receiving help from industry veterans early in its own life. “We’re extremely proud to launch this endeavor,” said Owlcat head of publishing Andrey Tsvetkov. “A rising tide truly lifts all ships. We firmly believe that showing support for open knowledge fosters collaboration and connection, which we feel is something the industry could use more of right now.

Submissions are open: any developer or publisher can send resources to be reviewed and categorized by the directory’s overseers, or email suggestions to [email protected]. Owlcat says the database will be continuously expanded and updated as new, vetted contributions arrive.

If you work in development and have useful tutorials, tools, or courses, the directory is set up to accept submissions and human curation rather than leaving everything to algorithmic dust.
