It’s June 2025, and Oblivion Remastered still lacks official modding tools from Bethesda. Yet modders have been busy crafting impressive additions regardless. Among their latest feats, they’ve developed a Fallout 4-style settlement placing system that lets players spawn and position objects freely in the world, even without any official backing.
Since the release of Bethesda and Virtuos’ reimagined Oblivion two months ago, modders have surprised many by producing a variety of mods. These include a Dark Brotherhood mode with infinite contracts and creative ways to get the game working with Lua scripts. You might wonder: how do they manage all this without a creation kit? It seems modders just keep finding ways around the limitations.
The newest mod, called Oblivion Settlement Building – Spawn and Place Objects, lets players act like an idle god by spawning large structures such as walls, beams, and rocks and placing them across Skingrad. The mod’s creator, MadAborModding, showcases this with some wild examples on Nexus Mods. It’s almost as if modders have decided to build their own creation kit inside the game itself.
Of course, this mod doesn’t offer a full settlement system yet. You can’t add inhabitants or manage resources like water or trade, so it’s more of a sandbox for now. MadAborModding hopes others will pick up the idea and expand it into something more complete. They admit they want that sort of mod but don’t want to be the one to make it—a feeling I’m sure many of us can relate to when facing ambitious projects.
Despite its simplicity, the mod is a testament to the dedication of the modding community. If you want to try it out, you must install the Unreal Engine 4/5 Scripting System and place the mod’s files into the OblivionRemasteredBinariesWin64MadSpawnFiles folder. It’s a bit of a manual process, but the results are worth a look.
Doesn’t it make you wonder what else modders might pull off next? When official support is missing, creativity often steps in. I’m curious if anyone will take up MadAborModding’s challenge and build a full settlement system for Oblivion Remastered. What do you think? Would you like to see more mods like this?
