Fans who preferred the older version of Nier finally have a way to return to that take on the character in the PC remaster. Modder Elevna has released Nier Gestalt ver.1.22474487139…, a project that replaces the remaster’s young protagonist with the older Father Nier from the original release.
The distinction between the two versions goes back to the 2010 launch. The PlayStation 3 version of Nier Replicant centered on Brother Nier, who was written as Yonah’s sibling. The Xbox 360 version, Nier Gestalt, changed him into Yonah’s father and aged him into a rougher, more tired-looking hero. Western audiences generally received the Gestalt version regardless of platform.
The later PC remaster, Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, brought Brother Nier to Western players. It also left fans who preferred the father-daughter relationship without an official way to use the original protagonist in the updated version. Elevna’s mod addresses that gap with far more than a model swap.
A full Father Nier conversion
The project restores Father Nier’s updated character model and brings back the original English voice recordings performed by Jamieson Price. That gives the remaster the same older voice and heavier delivery associated with the 2010 version.
Elevna also created Father Nier versions of the protagonist’s alternate outfits. The remaster’s bonus chapter received repurposed Price voice lines for scenes where the original dialogue does not directly fit, including small comments and combat sounds. Other characters’ references to Nier’s age were adjusted as well.
One especially careful touch involves the dream arena. In the original game’s additional content, players could fight as the other version of Nier. The mod restores Brother Nier for those dream battles, giving the extra mode its intended contrast instead of using Father Nier there too.
The result is a PC version that lets players experience the remaster’s upgraded presentation while keeping the older protagonist, relationship dynamic, and voice performance. The mod’s release trailer shows the restored character and its wider changes.
For players who connected more with Father Nier’s worn-down attitude and his role as Yonah’s father, Elevna’s work fills a very specific gap. It also preserves the remaster’s newer content rather than sending fans back to the original Xbox 360 version.
