Oblivion Remastered just received a fresh fan expansion that borrows heavily from The Witcher series. Modder AlexPreit has crafted a quest where players face off against five bosses to earn iconic Witcher-style rewards like the Viper Armor, Viper Blades, and a set of magic signs. It’s free content, so why not give it a whirl?
The Viper Gear pieces boost protection scaling with your Light Armor Skill, which is a neat touch. You also get two Claymore-shaped blades: a Steel blade that deals more damage to NPCs and a Silver blade helpful against creatures, very much in line with Witcher sword lore. The mod also introduces five magic signs: Aard, Igni, Axii, Quen, and Yrden, each with five mastery levels. Improving these signs requires investing in the corresponding school of magic. Pretty cool, right?
Starting the quest involves fighting one of the bosses; the modder suggests that the easier fights can be found at Cloud Top, north of Chorrol, or Veyond Cave, located outside Bravil. If you’re curious, you can download the mod from this Nexus Mods link. It’s a fun, slight expansion that Witcher fans might appreciate, and it adds some fresh challenges to Oblivion Remastered.
On the topic of Oblivion Remastered mods, there’s quite a collection worth checking out. Some mods revert the Male/Female setting changes, improve graphics, or add the ability for creatures and NPCs to catch fire from open flames. There’s also a first-person camera mod reminiscent of Trespasser, though it’s more of a novelty than essential. Other mods restore the game’s original color palette, extend light radius, and provide distinct locomotion animations for female characters.
Texture-wise, the first 4K Texture Pack enhances armor, weapons, clothing, and jewelry by using AI to upscale vanilla textures while keeping the original art style intact. A dedicated mod has also overhauled the behavior of animals. Plus, the creator behind the HD Reworked mods for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 has released their first Oblivion Remastered mods, which is worth a look.
Combat fans will want to check out Ultra Combat UE4SS – Physical Combat Overhaul. It introduces mechanics such as Perfect Dodge, Perfect Guard, and slow-motion headshots, providing a significantly more engaging fight system. Lastly, there’s a mod that adds over 500 hand-placed light sources to the Imperial City, which substantially changes the atmosphere.
Oblivion Remastered’s modding community continues to surprise me. Who would’ve thought a Witcher-themed expansion would fit so well? Yikes, this modding community never stops. How do you feel about blending two iconic RPG worlds like this? Please share your thoughts in the comments; I’m curious to hear what you think.
