Moonlighter will be available at no cost on Steam for four days, giving players a short window to claim the action-RPG before its regular price returns. Digital Sun and 11 Bit Studios are offering the game as part of a promotion scheduled to begin later on August 5 and end on Sunday, August 9, according to the Steam announcement.
Players can add Moonlighter to their Steam accounts during the offer and keep it permanently. That makes the four-day promotion a good chance to pick up the original adventure before Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault leaves Early Access and reaches version 1.0 on September 2.
Moonlighter splits its gameplay between two very different jobs. During the day, Will runs a shop in his village, setting aside the money needed for his next trip. When night arrives, he heads into dangerous dungeons to collect loot, face creatures and bosses, and bring back items to sell.
The shop gives each run a clear purpose. Players can return with valuable items, place everything from magic swords to battered armor on display, and set prices for customers in their hamlet. The proceeds support future expeditions, while the process of deciding what to sell adds a slower management layer to the action.
Its presentation also leans into pixel art and the feel of classic SNES-era action adventures. The result is an action-RPG with a shopkeeping routine on one side and dungeon combat on the other, rather than a roguelike built only around repeating runs.
Moonlighter 2 takes the formula in a different direction. The sequel uses an isometric view and combat with a stronger Hades influence, while its dungeon progression moves away from the first game’s more traditional runs in favor of node choices inspired by FTL and Slay the Spire. It still centers on the town of Tresna, where Will can get to know the local residents between expeditions.

Moonlighter 2’s September 2 launch gives players several weeks to claim the original game and decide whether Will’s first adventure belongs in their library. The free offer itself is much shorter, so anyone interested will need to add it to their Steam account before August 9.
