Activision and Infinity Ward updated the official Modern Warfare 4 Forward Operating Blog on July 15 with new information about weapon design and the Kill Block multiplayer facility. The hub collects the game’s campaign, multiplayer, DMZ, preorder, and development updates in one place.
The newest entry is From The Ward Episode 5, which looks at how Infinity Ward approached weapon design for Modern Warfare 4. The episode was updated on July 15, 2026, at 10:00 PT.
The same day’s second update covers Kill Block, a multiplayer experience built around changing combat spaces. The official entry was updated on July 15, 2026, at 9:00 PT, and provides the first dedicated briefing for the mode.
Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Infinity Ward is leading development, with Beenox working on the PC version and Digital Legends helping develop the Switch 2 release.
Campaign early access and the DMZ debut
Players who have access to the campaign early access period will be able to start the story on October 16, one week before the full launch. The campaign follows a conflict on the Korean Peninsula after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, with the story also returning to Captain Price.
DMZ will arrive alongside Modern Warfare 4 on October 23. Its main location is Hajin, an Exclusion Zone shaped by the campaign’s aftermath. The extraction shooter will feature Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, player-driven encounters, and progression that carries from match to match.
Activision and Infinity Ward also presented DMZ during the Xbox Games Showcase. The accompanying Xbox Wire briefing offered an early look at the extraction experience and its Hajin setting.
What comes with the Vault Edition
The Vault Edition includes the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack with four Operator Skins, the Special Forces Operator Pack with four Operator Skins, five Signature Weapon Blueprints, one season of BlackCell, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. Preordering also provides Open Beta Early Access and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin. Previous Call of Duty purchasers can receive a 10% Loyalty Discount.
More official Modern Warfare 4 videos
The official hub also includes behind-the-scenes material on sound design, key art, character creation, multiplayer design, and the game’s reveal. The published videos cover how real-world explosions were turned into in-game audio, how Ghost and other gear were developed, and Infinity Ward’s approach to movement, fluidity, and player control.
With the October 23 release date still ahead, the Forward Operating Blog will remain the main place for new official announcements about the campaign, multiplayer, and DMZ. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
