Minecraft Dungeons II’s gameplay trailer opens a door to a new dimension

Mojang's sequel launches September 29, 2026, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and both Nintendo Switch models, with new jump-based combat.

Minecraft Dungeons II has a new official gameplay trailer, and the sequel has finally put a name to its brand-new dimension: the colorful Sift. In its August 20 Xbox Wire update, the upcoming dungeon-crawling adventure put its latest setting and gameplay focus front and center.

Rifts are no longer just mysterious openings. The trailer shows them leading to the Sift, a bright parallel realm filled with sparkling water in pink, yellow, and green shades. Unusual mob types and dangerous threats are waiting beyond the rifts, giving this action-RPG sequel a destination that looks far removed from Minecraft’s familiar blocky scenery.

A new dimension is a pretty big door to open, especially for a sequel that was first announced during Minecraft Live on March 21, 2026. The original reveal focused more on the game’s mood and setting, while also teasing an unnamed threat, dangerous encounters, and locations that had not appeared in the series before.

The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in May 2020 as a top-down action RPG and has reached more than 25 million players across platforms. Mojang Studios developed that adventure with Double Eleven.

The Sift adds a vertical twist to combat

The Sift is more than a flashy backdrop. Minecraft Dungeons II will let characters jump, adding a new vertical layer to battles that the original game did not have. One character stands on a small island and fires a crossbow at enemies below, while another launches a leaping attack down a staircase.

That kind of movement could make dungeon runs feel a lot more dynamic. Suddenly, enemies below are not just waiting for a polite invitation to get bonked. The new dimension gives Mojang Studios plenty of room for stranger encounters and some wonderfully blocky chaos.

Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29, 2026

Mojang Studios has scheduled Minecraft Dungeons II for September 29, 2026, at a price of $29.99 / £24.99. The sequel is expected to launch across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and both Nintendo Switch models, and it will also be available through the Game Pass library for subscribers.

A deluxe edition will include additional hero skins, another cape and pet, along with two pieces of DLC.
