Mike Flanagan Teases an Unexpected Way Into Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40,000 Series
The filmmaker says the team has found a starting point for Amazon's adaptation, but its details remain secret.

Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40,000 series has found a way into its sprawling science fiction setting, and Mike Flanagan says the starting point is not what fans might expect. The filmmaker is keeping the premise secret, but says he is enjoying the work on Amazon’s adaptation.
Finding an entry point was a challenge given the size of the setting, Flanagan told Deadline. He pointed to 700 novels, as well as the tabletop game, interactive projects and the wider lore. “Henry Cavill would be furious if I divulged anything about what we’re working on,” he said. Even so, the team has found “a very cool and unexpected on-ramp into it.”
Cavill previously said he and Games Workshop had agreed on a starting place for their Warhammer universe with Amazon, without revealing what it was. Flanagan, whose work includes The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, joined the project earlier in 2026 and will write the script.
In July, Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree confirmed that Cavill remained involved in the Amazon-backed project. Its initial outlines were complete at that point, with script work to follow. Games Workshop cautioned in its annual report that the partnership’s film and television adaptations would take years to reach audiences.
