Helldivers 2’s creepy teaser for August 12 has Warhammer fans pointing to the Warp
Arrowhead's Face the Unknown clip pairs a plush Helldiver with a purple void, while the Warhammer 40,000 crossover will arrive on the same day.

Arrowhead Game Studios has given Helldivers 2 a very strange warning. Its “Face the Unknown” teaser, shared on August 5, follows a teddy bear dressed as a Helldiver as it drifts through space toward a purple void. The footage then flashes to the bear being torn apart and growing sharp teeth before a shadowy figure reaches toward it. The bear also briefly reappears on a jungle world, with a tall, rounded figure reflected in its eye as it reaches toward it.
The clip ends with the date August 12, which is also when the Warhammer 40,000 crossover is scheduled to arrive. The Castellan’s Creed Warbond will bring Cadian Kasrkin-inspired gear to the game on that day, giving the teaser’s timing an especially suspicious edge. The Warbond will add three weapons and two armor sets inspired by Warhammer 40,000, although its price had not been announced.
The simplest explanation is that the trailer is pointing toward the Illuminate. A phenomenon called The Void has been spreading across the Galactic Map and absorbing planets, and the Illuminate have been tied to it for months. Some players have also wondered whether a Cultist faction could join the conflict.
Nothing in the teaser confirms that reading, though. The purple-and-red rift looks remarkably close to the Eye of Terror from Warhammer 40,000, a Warp rift linked to the destruction of Cadia. That connection matters because the upcoming Warbond is built around Cadian equipment.
Arrowhead also spends time showing the teddy bear’s eye glowing purple. Fans have connected that image to the way Cadians were affected by the Warp, leading to theories that Helldivers could soon face the Chaos Gods rather than another branch of the Illuminate.
Warhammer fans have been joking that the crossover could send players straight into the Warp, complete with Gellar Fields. The idea is still only a fan theory, but the matching date and visual references have made it hard to ignore.
Whether the teaser points to a new Illuminate threat, a Warhammer-inspired story event, or something entirely different should become clearer on August 12. For now, Arrowhead is keeping the answer hidden behind a teddy bear, a purple void, and one very ominous set of teeth.
