Overwatch 2 adds a fresh face to its roster with Freja, a bounty hunter demanding sharp aim and quick feet. Launching May 20 in the new Stadium mode, she’s designed to reward players who can juggle movement and precision, making her one of the most demanding yet satisfying heroes to master.

Freja’s Origins and Role

Freja isn’t your typical damage dealer. She’s a projectile-based DPS with a kit built around mobility and control. Originally a search-and-rescue operative, her relentless drive transformed her into a feared bounty hunter who always hits her mark. Her gameplay reflects this duality—part seeker, hunter, and explosive force.

Breaking Down Her Abilities

  • Revdraw Crossbow: Freja’s main weapon lets you fire rapid bolts or take your time for deadly accurate shots. Balancing speed and precision is key to maximizing damage.
  • Take Aim (Explosive Bolt): This is her signature move. Land a perfect shot and watch enemies scatter. It’s especially powerful when combined with Quick Dash.
  • Quick Dash: A mobility tool that lets Freja move in any direction while reloading her explosive bolt. It’s great for repositioning or resetting cooldowns.
  • Updraft: Launch yourself high into the air to surprise rooftop campers or escape tight spots. It opens up new angles for attack or retreat.
  • Bola Shot: A crowd control ability that restrains an enemy and drags nearby foes into chaos. Perfect for disrupting enemy plays or setting up combos.

Every part of Freja’s kit pushes players to think on their feet, combining movement and aim in a way that’s tough but rewarding. She’s built for those who like to press a lot of buttons—but with purpose.

Designed to Challenge

Freja’s difficulty is intentional. The developers wanted a hero that demands strategic thinking, blending rapid mobility with precise shots. Her Updraft encourages creative ambushes or quick escapes, while Bola Shot adds a layer of chaos that can turn the tide of battle. She’s not forgiving, but for those willing to invest time, she offers a deeply satisfying experience.

Tips from the Devs

  • Combo Your Abilities: Use Quick Dash to reset your Explosive Bolt cooldown and fire it more often. Updraft can help you find better angles.
  • Predict Your Targets: Since her primary fire is projectile-based, aim ahead of moving enemies. Practice in the range if you need to sharpen this skill.
  • Maximize Your Perks: The Ready to Hunt perk grants an extra Quick Dash charge, letting you reset abilities more during fights.
  • Stay Agile: Freja thrives on movement. Keep repositioning with Quick Dash and Updraft to keep enemies guessing and find clutch shots.

Freja is more than just a new hero; she’s a sign of Overwatch 2’s ongoing evolution, rewarding skill and creativity. Whether you’re climbing the ranks or rediscovering projectile DPS, she offers a fresh, high-skill option to disrupt your matches.
